History of Hellenic A Tradition of Quality and Service Founded by Victor Guarisco (1898-1972) in South Louisiana in 1946 as Twenty Grand, Inc., the company originally operated a freezer ship as part of an ongoing shrimping enterprise in the Gulf of Mexico. With the advent, the late 1940's of offshore oil and gas exploration off the coast of Louisiana, the company began providing growth and success as major transportation company, Twenty Grand and its related enterprises merged with Tidewater Marine, Inc. A new direction for the company was begun following the merger with emphasis on Real Estate Development and Fuel Distribution of Exxon product. Real Estate: Today Hellenic, Inc. through its Real Estate Division, Inglewood Investments, is one of the most successful owner/operators of commercial real estate in South Central Louisiana. The company owns and operates several hundred thousand square feet of commercial office and retail space in and around the Atchafalaya River communities of Amelia, Morgan City, Berwick, Bayou Vista, and Patterson, Lousiana. Additionally, the Company owns more than five thousand acres of land in the area and is currently developing a 300 plus acre tract of land in Morgan City, which will include both residential and commercial elements. Fuel Distribution: As a franchise holder of Exxon products, Hellenic, Inc., through its fuel divisions, Rio Fuel and Supply Co. and Lakeside Services, sells both bulk fuel and lube products and retail gasoline and convenience merchandise. Rio Fuel and Supply Co. operates a bulk fuel plant in Morgan City with more than 1,000,000 gallons of storage capacity. Rio provides bulk fuel and lube products to the marine transportation industry over its docks on the Atchafalaya River and delivers, by transport tankers, to the industrial base of the area. Lakeside Service operates a chain of modern Exxon retail service stations which include expansive convenience stores and award winning deli food service. |
